Tai Chi Push Hands

by: Fernando Bernall, DOM, AP, CPT

Within the martial arts, as practiced in the West, Tai chi has not received the respect it deserves. This may be due in part to the association of Tai chi with other systems of health such as yoga, and meditation. While these systems share similar goals, mainly to enhance the practitioner’s well-being, Tai chi stands apart when viewed as a system of kung fu.

All systems of boxing have training methods unique to that particular style. Tai chi’s pugilistic qualities are trained through the practice of push-hands. The video below, was filmed during the 1998 International Wu-Shu, Kung Fu Festival and Championship, held in Baltimore, Md.

I had the privilege and honor to share the floor and compete with some top notch competitors and wish to share that experience with you..

Enjoy!
